How Much Does Facebook Advertising Cost in Romania? The Answer Agencies Avoid
5 min read
“It depends.” That’s the standard answer you get when you ask an agency how much Facebook advertising costs. Technically true. Also lazy, because you can explain what it depends on, with numbers, and give honest budget ranges. That’s what this article does: no “customers for 2 EUR a day” promises, no scare tactics designed to make an agency look indispensable. Just how costs actually work in Meta Ads, meaning Facebook and Instagram combined, in the Romanian market.
Why there is no fixed price, no matter how hard you look
Meta doesn’t sell ads at a shelf price. It sells attention at auction. Every second, the system auctions off impressions to real people, and every advertiser who wants to reach those same people bids against everyone else. You don’t pay a rate. You pay whatever it takes to win the auction that moment.
That’s why the same business can pay a 2 EUR CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) in March and 7 EUR in December, when every retailer is fighting over the same audiences. Nobody “raised your prices.” Attention got more expensive.
What actually drives your bill up or down
Your costs are pushed around by a handful of concrete factors:
- Industry. Real estate, finance, medical aesthetics: big money on the table, crowded auctions, expensive clicks. A local pizzeria plays in a much cheaper league than a property developer.
- Audience. The narrower and more coveted the group (executives, newly engaged couples, new apartment owners), the more it costs to reach them.
- Campaign objective. Impressions are cheap, clicks are fine, conversions are expensive. Makes sense: you’re asking the algorithm for people who actually buy, not people who merely scroll.
- Creative quality. The one factor fully under your control. A video that stops the scroll can cut your cost per result in half compared to a stock photo with text slapped on it. Meta rewards ads people don’t ignore.
- Seasonality. October through December is expensive for everyone. January is cheap. Plan accordingly.
How much does Facebook advertising cost by business type
The ranges below are orientative, not a price list. They’re the budgets at which an account has a real chance to generate data and results, based on what we see daily in Romanian ad accounts:
- Local business (restaurant, salon, gym, clinic): 300-800 EUR per month in ad spend. Below 150-200 EUR monthly, the algorithm simply can’t gather enough data to learn who becomes your customer, so you pay beginner rates forever.
- E-commerce: 1,000-5,000 EUR per month as a serious starting point, more when scaling. Meta needs a decent weekly volume of conversions to exit the learning phase, and below a certain budget the math never closes.
- High-ticket services (real estate, B2B, medical): 500-2,500 EUR per month. Your cost per lead will be higher than an online store’s, but one closed client can cover months of budget.
On top of that comes management: an agency fee, or your own hours if you run it yourself. Those aren’t free either.
Cheap clicks are not the goal. Cost per result is
This is where most business owners burn money: they optimize the wrong metric. A 0.10 EUR click that never buys is more expensive than a 1 EUR click that does. The only question that matters is what a result costs you: a sale, a ticket, a booking, a qualified lead.
One example from our own portfolio: at MINA Iași, the immersive art museum, we took over an ad account that was already running campaigns. Same product, same market. With restructured campaigns and new creatives, cost per ticket dropped by roughly 70% and ROAS doubled in 4 months. The budget was never the problem. How it was being spent was.
The Boost button: the most expensive “cheap” button in marketing
We get it, it’s tempting. You post something, Facebook suggests “Boost this post for 10 EUR,” you tap it, you feel productive. But boosting without strategy usually optimizes for engagement: likes and comments from people the algorithm knows are generous with reactions, not with money.
No pixel and conversion events, no sales-related objective, no exclusions, no creative testing. Boosting like that is mostly a tax on impatience. 10 EUR feels small. 10 EUR a hundred times, with zero measurable customers, is 1,000 EUR elegantly incinerated.
Agency or do it yourself?
Honest answer: you don’t always need an agency.
Do it yourself if your ad budget is under 400-500 EUR per month, you have time to learn, and your funnel is simple. At that level, an agency fee can eat a disproportionate share of your investment.
Hire an agency when your budget grows to the point where a poorly managed account loses more each month than a well managed one costs, when you physically don’t have time for testing and optimization, or when you’re scaling and every percentage point of efficiency means real money. The math is simple: the fee is justified only if the improvement in results covers it with profit left over. If an agency won’t agree to be judged on cost per result, find another one.
So how much does Facebook advertising cost? As much as you’re willing to invest to find out, with proper measurement, what a customer is actually worth to you. Everything else is execution detail. Important detail, but detail.
